ARCH 655, Final Project

This is a follow up on the first project of modeling Tadao Ando's Opers House using Grasshopper.
The model has been developed by adding curtain walls on four sides and then using the Ladybug plugin, the solar radiation analysis has been studied in order to find the optimum shading device.



First the curves on both sides of the opening were selected and joined.








However, since it made a deflection when selected all together, I had to retrieve the points on each curve and join them on the top, middle and bottom part separately.



Next they were lofted to make the surface that covers the openings on sides.




By using Quad Panels component from Lunchbox plugin, a grid is made over the surface that we just made. 


 

After that, as can be seen in image below the mullions are created by selecting edges, making curves, and using the sweep component.


The transparency is added to the surface using the following components.




The grids are made on all four sides using the same method.


Next step is to perform a solar radiation analysis in order to figure the amount of solar exposure on each floor and then design the shading devices accordingly.


First, the EPW file is imported from the EPW map website: http://www.mostapha.io/epwmap/

Second, using Ladybug's Radiation Analysis component and with the Brep set to the first and 2nd floor, the radiation on these two floors is measured.



As can be seen in the above image, the amount of radiation on the 2nd floor is more than first floor, so that shading devices should be designed in a way to achieve the optimum radiation on each level.

Finally, using Sunpath component from Ladybug, the temperature and global horizontal radiation would be studied and shading devices would be generated accordingly.

As shown in the image below, with the use of epw file, and Sunpath component, two diagrams for heat and global horizontal radiation are made. The diagrams show the time and dates in which temperature is over 28 C and radiation is over 644 wh/m2.


Then, with the use of Ladybug, Shading Designer component, shading devices are made according to the sun vector and building's orientation to get the optimum sunlight from the windows on the sides.
